Emo Newsletter, Wrapped

Year in Review

Spotify Wrapped day is always so much fun on social media for me - especially all the memes ranging from LA to Pixar to Advertising. I see it all in good fun to compare top artists and songs, I love that listening to music is both extremely personal but also this mass shared pop culture experience.

Since the “Top Fan” stat has been tracked, I’ve consistently ended up in the Top 0.05% of My Chemical Romance listeners! Did any of you make it a top % of listeners for your fav?

Of course, Spotify and other streamers aren’t perfect. There’s a lot broken about the economics of the music industry from production to streaming to touring. As fans we have to remember that buying tickets to shows and and getting music, vinyl, and merch directly from artists is the best way to give support.

All this led me to think about my stats for this newsletter! After a roughly six months, I’ve sent out 23 weekly emails. I’ve recapped 17 shows, written 11 poems, and reviewed 4 books. There are a little over 750 of y’all, with July being the month with the most reader growth. Woah - I am a little surprised that I’ve been able to keep this up and hit a six month milestone. Here’s to a new year of the Emo Newsletter!
