An Emo Kid Won A Golden Globe
New year, same emo shit
After a much needed extended holiday break, I am back and ready to get going for this year! In the last ten days I’ve made more progress on my book than I have in the last three months. I’m both surprised and glad that the infectious motivation that bubbles around new year resolutions managed to kick my productivity into high gear!
My main creative goals for this year include finally finishing and putting out my book, making a few more journals & coloring books, and continuing to crank out these weekly emails.
I’ve also had a some thoughts about the email’s content, and there’s some ideas I’ll be trying out. It’s been lot of fun diving into this world in the last 7-8 months, and I’m starting to evolve from the “throwing things at the wall” stage to the “I think I can be a little more intentional and make slightly better stuff now” stage. As always, if there’s something you like or want to see more of, reply to this email and drop me a line!

FROM THE PIT
Something Corporate closed out 2023 with a pair of shows at The Grove in Anaheim. When it was announced I knew I could not miss this show, since I had missed their big reunion headliner at the House of Blues in Vegas a few months back.
Tickets were sold via lottery and I was lucky to snag one for the 12/31 NYE show! Winona Fighter opened, and totally won me over with their song “You Look Like A Drunk Phoebe Bridgers.”
I’m familiar with the venue and remembered there’s tiered levels inside, so I arrived early and as soon as doors opened, I rushed to get the front row of the 2nd tier, slightly elevated over the pit with a great view of the stage.
The set was nearly two hours of all those classic hits, including “If You C Jordan,” “Space,” “I Woke Up In a Car,” and sooooo many more. The energy onstage felt like a victory lap of remembering the good ole’ days, while still being on top of their game. I’ve waxed poetic many, many times about how much I adore Andrew McMahon’s music, and I even joked to someone waiting in line near me at the show that Andrew is my Taylor Swift.
I smiled nonstop through the set, I as much as I didn’t want it to end, the night barreled on toward midnight.
SC timed their set to end with a midnight countdown, all their loved ones joined the band onstage for a champagne toast and balloon drop. And of course, the night ended with the first song of 2024 - Konstantine.

NOSTALGIA BLAST
No formal throwback this week, but y’all. SO MANY ALBUMS are turning 20 this year. I had to make a calendar doc to keep track. I’ll plan to cover a bunch of anniversaries!
Reply to this email if there’s an album anniversary happening this year that I absolutely shouldn’t miss.
