Support your local scene
Facebook is useless like 90% of the time. Birthday reminders and Facebook groups are really all it is good for at this point.
In the last month, a Facebook group popped up dedicated to The Door Fort Worth - one of the cornerstone venues in the Dallas/Fort Worth rock music scene in the early 2000’s. Former band members, fans, and venue staff have reconnected and it’s been a lovefest of “remember this band…” and “oh I played in these bands…” and “who remembers __? There were awesome!”
Since I moved away from DFW nearly 10 years ago, I fell out of that local scene with a hard cutoff so I’m so thankful there’s a place now to reconnect. The best part has been band members swapping dropbox links to old music that’s been lost to the internet with the fall of Myspace and Purevolume.
Also THIS SHOW FLYER is from a show that was on my birthday (2007?) - I WAS THERE!! Y’all, I flipped out seeing this.

Also, bless the wayback machine for letting me take a look back at the venue’s show calendar page. This brings back so many memories!
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, if you really fucking love a band and you get to see them (especially if they’re a smaller band) - don’t be afraid to take a few videos and pictures. I’d do anything to get my hands on more footage from those shows at the Door Fort Worth from my teenage years.

IT’S NOT A PHASE
Things found on the interwebz this week:
Alkaline Trio’s new album is out! It has a bite to it, there’s dark, clever lyrics delivered in perfect punk speed. These are songs that were made to be played live. → Spotify
Bayside is going on tour with Armor for Sleep and Finch this spring!→ Altpress
Emo Orchestra’s next tour with Escape the Fate is now on sale. Y’all. Don’t miss this! → Emo Orchestra
NOSTALGIA BLAST
The Number Twelve Looks Like You was one of the bands that were my entry point into mathcore. Their EP “An Inch of Gold for an Inch of Time” turns 19 this week! While my favorite album from this band is actually 2007’s Mongrel, this EP sets up their style of brash vocals, rhythmic guitar solos, and grindcore.
Also the cover of “My Sharona" in this heavy style still fucking SLAPS. Check it out:
