AI art sucks

I’m back from a quick vacation! After being fully consumed in this whole writing project + newsletter thing for the last few months, a few days break was both needed and welcomed. I didn’t even talk about my book to my friends I was on vacation with - that’s how much I needed to fully step away for a bit.

But break doesn’t last forever, I’m full steam ahead on continuing work on my manuscript and am constantly thinking of ways to improve the newsletter. I may start playing with formats and sections for this email over the coming weeks. As always, reply or DM me if you have any constructive feedback or want to see me include something in particular!

IT’S NOT A PHASE

Things found on the interwebz this week:

  • L.S. Dunes announced a new music video, and unfortunately it looks to use AI generated art. Not good fam. Let’s hope they decide to shelve this one. → Twitter

  • The new Explosions in the Sky album is finally out, and its so worth a listen → YouTube

  • In case you’ve been living under a rock - there’s a new Blink-182 song out! → Spotify

NOSTALGIA BLAST

In celebration of new Blink music, I gotta throw it back to their self-titled album, which turns 20 years old in a few months. This is the kind of album that bands make to solidify their legacy as one of the greats.

No skips, each track expands upon the boundaries of where Blink could go musically. “Feeling This” fits right in with the best of their pop punk party tracks that came before them, as “Violence” and “Stockholm Syndrome” build upon “Adam’s Song” and “Stay Together for The Kids" for a mature, rounded sound that shows off their musicianship.

And a collab with Robert Smith?? Y’all. “All of This” shouldn’t have worked as well as it did.

This album was on constant rotation for me in high school. Before writing about it here, it’d been a while since I sat down for a full listen through and I’m like - HELLO this is one of your favorite complete albums start to finish!! Listen to it in full more often!!
