They Will See Us Waving From Such Great Heights

Emo Coloring Book Inside!

Hello new readers! I noticed my tumblr post about my MCR zine started to make the rounds again and new readers signed up. Hope y’all enjoy the zine and continue to stick around here for these little weekly emails.

I’m starting to feel “crunch time” creeping up on me and I don’t feel like I’m anywhere near where I need to be as far as having a fully completed draft, and getting ready to move to the next phase of edits. As soon as Halloween season is over, I gotta put my head down and get back at it!

For a few weeks now, I’ve been contemplating going the Kickstarter route to get things going for the editing and finishing phase. The timing is rough, with the holiday season coming up and budgets tend to be tight for everyone. But good editors, proofreaders, and cover artists should be paid fairly and I want to put out the best book that I can produce.

Ah, much to think about and much to work on!

IT’S NOT A PHASE

Things found on the interwebz this week:

  • Bad Veins - who have been on hiatus for a couple years - have returned with a new song! → Spotify

  • Thursday announced winter tour dates for the “War All The Time” 20th anniversary - I got my ticket! → Instagram

  • I’m hyped to hear from Keith Buckley’s new band, Many EyesYouTube

FROM THE PIT

This past weekend at the Hollywood Bowl, Death Cab for Cutie and The Postal Service played three sold out shows. I was lucky to snag a ticket to night one, the fall weather perfect for a night to celebrate two seminal albums in the emo/indie world.

This tour is a dream fulfilled - I hadn’t had the chance to see either band before, and the night truly felt like something special. The Postal Service portion of the night belonged to Jenny Lewis, her performance looked effortless and cool in all the best ways.

We owe Ben Gibbard so much for shaping the emo scene’s definition of what love should sound like.

Death Cab for Cutie

I’m too tired and too old to be crowing on about crowd etiquette. So I’ll say - please for the sanity of those around you - be mindful when in public. My experience at this show was less than ideal due to several different groups of people sitting around me who all valued their personal, loud conversations over focusing on the live music happening right in front of them.

I go to shows expecting to see people dancing and hear people singing along - that’s the point! But full-on irrelevant conversations that don’t stop for the music is disrespectful to everyone around, even when too far away for the artist to notice.

It was a bummer to have to deal with, but I won’t let other people crush my joy for this show!

DIARY ENTRY

Y’ALL! The coloring book is finally available!

I’m still waiting on my proof copy but it is up and live now on Amazon. I also made a new blank lined journal called “Emo Thoughts” that’s available to y’all as well.

I cannot wait to see everyone’s completed coloring book pages - post them and tag me!!
