Work sucks, I know
Corporate emo politics
Well, the last two weeks have been a LOT for my personal life. Let’s get into it - started off with Valentine’s Day, where I worked almost an entire busy day before I got called to talk to the big boss - where I was informed that I was being laid off, effective immediately. Like a true emo, I cried.
The next day was my fucking birthday. First day unemployed and scrambling to figure out how the fuck I’m gonna survive is what the universe thought would be a nice gift for me this year. The next day I had multiple job interviews, another few days after that I fucked off to Las Vegas to visit friends. And then last Thursday - exactly 8 days after being laid off - I had my first day at work at a new (freelance for now) job.
Literally WTF??!?!
The day this email goes out will be my 4th day of work at this new job after being laid off less than two weeks ago? How did I pull that out of the bag? I’m not sure what’s going on in the universe - I just know that I’m being dragged along for the ride if I enjoy it or not.
Within all this madness - I skipped sending an email last week and all my creative projects have not been touched at all. Part of me wishes I still had more free time with unemployment so I could actually do some of these things. But in this economy? The grind comes first.
I’m buckled up and trying to figure out what’s next the best I can. Thank you if you’re along for the ride. 🖤

IT’S NOT A PHASE
Things found on the interwebz this week:
No Values punk fest in SoCal has been announced for this summer with headliners Misfits and Social Distortion. I haven’t gotten a ticket yet but I’m leaning toward going! → AXS
Hot Water Music announced a new album that’s FULL of features - including Thrice, The Interruptors, and Turnstile → Stereogum
Bayside announced a new album and tour, and released a new single “The Devils” → YouTube
NOSTALGIA BLAST
Armor For Sleep’s “What To Do When You Are Dead” celebrated its 19th anniversary this week. Y’all. This album. THIS ALBUM.
The concept follows the story of the protagonist’s death and journey into the afterlife track by track. For an album about such a dark subject, the songs are so full of life - with melodramatic harmonies and callback lyrics that reward a complete listen from start to finish.
I was lucky to catch Armor for Sleep tour this album semi-recently on its delayed 15th anniversary tour, getting to scream out “don’t believe that the weather is perfect the day that you die” in a packed room was beyond cathartic.
