Writing Weekend Update

Get An Emo Diary

Hello new readers - there’s now well over 700 people here! It’s awesome that y’all are here, and I hope you continue to stick around to read these emails each week.

As always, I welcome anyone to hit reply to this email or drop me a DM and let me know what you want to see me cover here! I’m totally open to feedback to make this something you look forward to reading each week.

I went on a mini writing retreat over the long weekend by using the last of my banked travel rewards points. Rain and dust storms in Palm Springs kept me inside my bare-bones hotel room with a stack of books and my laptop. The weekend ended up being a mixed bag - as I was able to focus on my book draft with minimal distraction, I realized the problem that kept me running into a brick wall.

Now I’m course correcting by switching up formats. Instead of a traditional narrative, I’ll be using short essays to get my thoughts across. Let’s see if this will work and that progress picks up!

IT’S NOT A PHASE

Things found on the interwebz this week:

  • Bastille and Hans Zimmer collabed to make an orchestral version of “Pompeii” and holy crap this is cool → YouTube

  • David Fincher’s new film The Killer will feature music from The Smiths and score from Trent Reznor & Atticus RossBrooklynVegan

  • RIP to Steve Harwell (Smash Mouth) and Jimmy Buffet, hope y’all are starting a jam band in the great beyond → CNN

NOSTALGIA BLAST

Next week the album Absolution from Muse turns 20! I fucking love this album, it was my gateway into orchestral / melodic rock. After hearing Absolution, I discovered appreciation for bands ranging from Dream Theater to Godspeed! You Black Emperor. While I haven’t kept up with Muse much lately, they have a banger four album run from Origin of Symmetry to The Resistance that I believe stands the test of time.

DIARY ENTRY

I put up another journal for sale! This one’s a lined notebook with the prompt “Things that made me emo today…”

Pick up a copy for yourself, along with extras to give out as gifts! All the royalties from these will help fund the editors and graphic artist I hope to hire to help get my book ready for publication.

Special announcement just for my readers here - I’m working on an emo-theme coloring book! It will be ready soon, and I’ll share that here when it is ready for y’all to snag a copy.

And of course, the Concert Journal is also still available to grab.
